Denis Vsesvyatsky has assumed the role of CEO at “WHAT TO DO”

National Media Group (NMG) and Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) have agreed to invest in the creation of a joint Commercial Fund for the development of film and animation.


	 The Fund's primary objective is to provide systematic financing for the production of feature films for commercial distribution. The planned investment in the Fund is up to 8 billion rubles, with NMG contributing more than half of the funds.


	 NMG will provide preliminary guidance for the selection of projects, while the final decision on the Fund's financing will be made by the Fund's content committee, which will include representatives of NMG and RDIF. The Fund's content committee will be headed by Fyodor Bondarchuk, General Producer of NMG Studios, Director and Producer.


	 Thanks to the efforts of the Fund's team, the time to find investors will be significantly reduced, and the film market will be enriched with new spectacular films that will be of interest not only to Russian audiences, but also abroad, with the potential for distribution in friendly countries in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. NMG and RDIF create the Commercial Fund for the development of film and animation in Russia

National Media Group announces the launch of the Experimental Creative Association (ECA). It is a laboratory for the development of debut projects for entertainment and information segments of the holding company's broadcasting, online platforms, as well as feature films for cinema distribution.


	 The lab will develop experimental projects created by debutants and students. Participants are given the opportunity to work with their ideas with the support of the holding company. In case of a successful defense of the project, a decision will be made on launching a full season or a feature-length film into production.


	 The creation of ECA is the result of the holding's accumulated expertise in working with talented debutants. Some of the projects already in development within the laboratory were created by participants of the program “NMG Debut” and “Creators”, the case championship of creative ideas for students from non-media specialties, launched with the support of NMG in 2023.

NMG launches Experimental Creative Association

National Media Group announces the creation of NMG DOC, a cluster specialising in the production of documentary content for TV, online services and platforms. The successful experience accumulated by NMG in creating highly rated game content makes it possible to scale this expertise to the documentary film production market as well.


	 The new structural unit will be headed by Yulia Zasko, a winner of the Russian Government Media Award. Vladimir Tyulin, Deputy General Director of the National Media Group, will supervise the work of NMG DOC, while TV producers Mikhail Tukmachev and Ekaterina Avaliani will be responsible for the production part and selection of ideas. The content creation will be assisted by an expert council consisting of prominent historians, scientists and documentary filmmakers.

National Media Group presents the results of the first case championship of creative ideas "Creators", which brought together 1,200 students from 81 regions of Russia, united in 250 teams.


	 Applications were submitted by students of various specialties from social sciences to engineers from more than 75 universities, including HSE, Financial University, Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, RANEPA, PRUE. Plekhanov, Gubkin Russian State University, RUDN, SFU and SPbPU. The leading fields are "Economics", "Information Technology", "Law" and "Chemistry and Biotechnology".


	 The championship lasted from August 13 to September 8 in the online format and gave students and specialists of non-creative specialties an opportunity to contribute to the development of the media industry. The project had several stages. The first qualifying stage was passed by 65 teams, which had an opportunity to realize their ideas with the support of media industry experts. As a result, 12 teams whose ideas met the criteria of the second qualifying stage made it to the final of the case championship.


	 The defense of creative projects was held on September 8 in the online format. The teams presented their projects to the top management of NMG in the sections "Content of Tomorrow" and "Big Idea". The participants proposed unique plots for series and shows, as well as innovative ideas for content in the media and entertainment industry. It was not only creativity that hey had to show, but also analytical skills - to justify why their idea is worthy of realization. At the end of the day the jury determined the winners, finalists and special prizes of the first championship of creative ideas:

	 - Dream Team and Killer Queen shared the third place;

NMG announces the launch of the Championship of Creative Ideas for Media Business Development in Russia 

The Platform Center for Social Design, with the support of the National Media Group, analyzed the films of 2022-2023 in the context of their value impact on the modern viewer and compiled a rating of the top 25 films with a social effect.


	 88% of Russians in 2023 highly value the quality of domestic film content. Over the past year, this indicator has grown by 6 percentage points, while 71% believe that Russian cinema can produce content comparable in level with Western.


	 Unconditional and potential leaders of the rating


	 The rating takes into account two indicators: viewer ratings on online platforms and the influence index (it allows one to measure the viewer's emotional response, their involvement in the story, the impact of the picture on their perceptions and even actions).


	 The undisputed leaders of the rating have become six films and TV series that appear to meet the real needs of the audience more than others. Among them are "The Righteous", "Distant Loved Ones", "Troubles teens 4", "Off the Rails", "Cheburashka" and "Zero". It was these paintings that exemplified the balance of viewership (high rating on online platforms) and social influence.


	 The top 6 are united by high audience ratings due to the ability of pictures to change attitudes. This is influenced, among other things, by the presence of an important idea and a new perspective on a topical issue. "The Righteous" (91%) and "Distant Loved Ones" (82%) scored the highest on the former point, while "Zero" (83%) and "Troubled Teens 4" (81%) scored the highest on the latter. The hero and his or her story also influence viewers: the strongest empathy for heroes was experienced by those who watched "The Righteous" (89%), "Zero" (83%) and "Distant Loved Ones" (82%). At the same time, the change of the hero, his path in the last movie impressed viewers the most compared to the other leaders (84%).


	 These films and TV series, according to viewers, will remain in memory for a long time, which indicates an accurate hit to their target audience. They are also ready to recommend them to their surroundings, which will strengthen and expand the effect of the pictures in the future.


	 The rating also highlights eight potential leaders: "Dropper", "Black Spring", "Giza", "13 clinical", "Aunt Marta", "Mira", "Alice can't wait" and "Disobedient". With high audience ratings, these films and TV series have more moderate impact indicators compared to the undisputed leaders. And this indicates a high potential for further strengthening of the social effect.


	 Also included in the rating are: "Two hills", "Identification", "Life on call", "Flock", "Eve, it’s time to give birth!", "The End of the world", "Newcomers", "Monastery", "In Two", "Young man", "Chekago".


	 Among all the participants in the rating, the respondents identified examples of reference films, believing that more of them need to be produced. The top ten includes the top 6 film products from the list of undisputed leaders, as well as "Mira", "Kapelnik", "Monastery" and "Disobedient". It is they, according to the audience, that meet family values, demonstrate the history of the country and pride in its achievements, and also show a willingness to rethink the lessons of the past, both historical and cultural.


	 Russian viewers want to see more social impact in movies


	 Over the past three years, Russians’ attitude towards domestic cinema has become better. This indicator has grown by 11 percentage points since 2021. The key drivers for positive changes were: improving the quality of filming, special effects and graphics, as well as deep elaboration of the themes and plots of Russian paintings.


	 At the same time, viewers also see potential points of growth for Russian cinematography in the future. According to viewers, modern cinema still lacks films with useful themes aimed at educating viewers, especially children and young people (30%), as well as content with an honest and realistic plot (28%) and socially important topics of concern to society (20%). This indicates a growing interest among viewers in the social impact of movie content.


	 58% of respondents believe that cinema should purposefully change people, develop positive values, and set examples of correct behavior. In recent years, viewers' demand for the educational function of cinema has remained stable. It grows along with the age of viewers and is most manifested by parents with underage children.


	 As a rule, viewers want to see in movies the same topics that concern them in real life. And this becomes another challenge for creators of content with a socially significant effect: on the one hand, they have to show familiar problems from a new perspective, and on the other hand, they have to interest viewers in new topics.


	 57% of respondents believe that films on socially significant topics should encourage to appreciate the family, 39% — to be proud of their homeland, to be a patriot. These queries are most relevant to the audience over 35 years old. Whereas people under the age of 34, more than the older generation, want films to teach how to counteract family violence, fight stereotypes and talk about interaction with people with health problems.


	 At the same time, there are also extra—age requests: 25% of respondents want cinema to encourage them to give up bad habits, 24% — to be more attentive to children, and 23% - to take care of the elderly.

Perhaps the main trend reflected by the new study is the growing demand of the audience for the value content of the content. Now the viewer's attention is drawn to the subject of the content — meanings and values. 	 The study was conducted in February-April 2023. The survey was attended by 1,200 viewers and 50 experts in the field of film production. As part of the study, 10 in-depth interviews and 2 focus groups with viewers were conducted to compile a rating of the top 25 Russian paintings in terms of their value impact.

NMG and Platform presented the second annual rating of films and TV series with a social impact

Rostelecom and the National Media Group (NMG) announce a deal to merge video services more.tv and Wink in a joint venture (JV). The combined service will operate under the Wink brand and intends to become one of the leaders of the online cinema market in Russia. Rostelecom President Mikhail Oseevsky and NMG CEO Svetlana Balanova signed the documents on the deal on June 15 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.


	 Rostelecom's share in the authorized capital of the joint venture will be 70%, and NMG’s - 30%. The online cinema more tv and 50% of shares in "NMG Studio" were transmitted by the NMG side. Rostelecom, in turn, transmits the Wink online cinema, including a single platform for working in OTT and IPTV environments.

	 Wink is a digital video service of Rostelecom, one of the top 3 Russian online cinemas by the number of subscribers.


	 Wink combines the advantages of interactive television (more than 300 TV channels) and an online cinema with an excellent collection of movies, TV series, cartoons, concerts and other content, including blogging, for every taste (60,000 positions). It is available on home TV screens (using a set-top box, applications in Smart TV, Apple TV and Android TV), smartphone or tablet (using mobile applications for Android and iOS), laptop and computer (on the wink.ru video portal). Audiobooks and karaoke are also available in the service.


	 Wink is a basic online cinema in the tariff lines of Rostelecom and mobile operator Tele2, also presented in VK Combo and Fire GPB subscriptions.


	 more.tv is an online service of the National Media Group, which has combined its own projects in the more originals line, foreign premieres of TV series and films, exclusive content and live broadcast of popular Russian TV channels in one place. Content can be viewed on the service for free with ads or in a single subscription. The service is available via a browser on any desktop computers and laptops, as well as in applications for iOS, Android, Android TV and Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV and LG Smart TV (webOS).
